I graduated from the University of Lisbon (1983), and became immediately a junior assistant at the Faculty of Psychology. In 1988-89 I did a year abroad, participating in the doctoral program in Health Psychology at UCLA (Los Angeles). I finished my Ph.D. in 2001 and continued as an assistant professor at the same University until today. Since 2009 I have been at the Portuguese Order of Psychologits, of which I am the president. The Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP) is the professional organization of psychologists in Portugal. In September 2012, I became president of FIAP (Federacion Iberoamericana de Associaciones de Psicologia). In the present I continue to conciliate, however with some difficulty, the role of researcher and organizational leader.
