About

Tom Ligthart graduated in environmental and agricultural sciences at Wageningen University in 1996. Thereafter he worked in the area of housing, specialized in sustainable building. His activities included the development of measures for the National Sustainable Building Manuals for housing and the implementation of measures in building and construction projects. At TNO he became an LCA and Sustainability expert. He has developed adaptations and extensions of current LCIA methodology on integration of social factors, industrial safety and health and more realistic modelling of the impact of essential metals. He contributed to FP7 projects on nanomaterials such as LICARA (LCA and socio-economic valuation), SUN (LCA and decision support) and FNN (life cycle approach future nanomaterials). Furthermore he contributed to renewable materials and fuels FP7 projects (BioBuild, PHBottle, BioBoost). Recently he had a part-time secondment at the Top Institute Food & Nutrition developing and applying an LCA-based packaging tool and gave lectures on sustainability of packaging at Dutch universities of applied science.
