Research interests

Biological psychiatric researches applying structural magnetic resonance imaging focusing on the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and other psychoses.

About

Dr Takahashi graduated in medicine from Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University in 1996, and completed his PhD at Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University Postgraduate School of Medicine in 2002. Most of his research work to date has involved biological psychiatric research using structural MRI to help elucidate the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and other psychoses. He is recipient of a Research Award of Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology in 2006 for his series of publications regarding temporal lobe gray matter changes in schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Dr Takahashi is currently a Lecturer and Clinical Associate Professor at Department of Neuropsychiatry, University of Toyama, and since October 2007 to September 2009 he had worked on longitudinal MRI analysis in early psychosis (particularly in the ultra-high risk individuals for developing psychosis) at the Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre as a Visiting Research Fellow. Dr Takahashi is also involved in a number of international collaborations including genetic studies of schizophrenia that use brain morphology as a neurobiological endophenotype.
