Dr. González is an Anthropologist, focused on the archaeological study of chiefdoms and the factors of societal change, with geographic interest in Norte de Santander and the Alto Magdalena regions of Colombia. Obtained an Anthropologist degree from the Universidad de Los Andes (1993), M.A. and Ph.D. (1998) in Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh. He has worked as researcher since 1987. He has taught at the Universities of Los Andes, Rosario, Externado de Colombia and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, helping to organize the graduate programs. He has served for more than ten years as Coordinator of Archaeology at the ICANH-the national authority in Colombia. He has promoted the use of technologies to improve efficiency in data collection minimizing impacts on the archaeological heritage. He has actively promoted research and the legal protection of the archaeological heritage in Colombia and the Andean region, helping to formulate strategies to combat trafficking of cultural properties, strengthening the legal system, and establishing the official archaeology record systems and procedures. He has co-edited the journal Revista de Arqueología del Area Intermedia and engaged in collaborative research with colleagues of various nationalities.
