Dr. Kurashvili is a Head of Analytical Sci. Dept. in VNIIFK - Federal State Institution "All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Physical Culture and Sport", which is the first in the country and one of the oldest research institutions in the field of physical culture and sports in the world.
He is widely recognized as a scientist specializing in extreme human physiology. His work is focused on wide range disciplines - from creating comparative performance charts to designing exercise and nutrition programs that enhance athletic performance.
Earlier he was a military flight surgeon, retiring from the Russian Air Force as a colonel. He entered the Soviet Air Force from the Military Medical Academy (USSR).
He has served as a Scientific Researcher at a Military Institute of Aviation and Space Medicine. His major field of scientific activity was human performance under extreme circumstances. Upon retirement from the military he joined Moscow Center for Innovative Sport Technologies.
Later Dr. Kurashvili accomplished didactic programs in exercise, physiological aspects of controlling sport results, rehabilitation, methodology of physical education, etc.
Dr. Kurashvili has developed a unique ability to bring experts from several disciplines together and focus their attention on a complex interdisciplinary problem. His experience as Flight Surgeon have given him an understanding of how to champion an interdisciplinary team.
Dr. Kurashvili is recognized nationally and internationally as an authority in the field of Sport and Exercise physiology. He has devoted the last twenty years of his professional career to conducting research, offering courses and seminars, and consulting for problems relating to health care.
