Public Policy and Administration. Climate change policy. Environmental policy. Research methods. Interpretive methods. Communicating research beyond academia.
I'm in the second year of PhD research into "Climate Change Policy Implementation in the East Midlands", having completed a MA in Research Methods in September 2009 as part of the ESRC 1+3 CASE award.
Currently conducting fieldwork before spending the last 14 months or so doing the analysis and writing. Still thinking about ways to make the project innovative and useful to policy makers while making a contribution to academic knowledge. This PhD *will* be finished on time. Thesis submission date: September 2012.
In 2010, I was joint organiser of the very successful ENQUIRE Conference "Research Stories" at Nottingham University, attracting over 90 delegates and keynote speakers Alan Bryman, Nirmal Puwar, Tim May and Lisa McKenzie. I am mentoring organisers of the 2011 Conference; more details on the project at http://enquireconference.posterous.com/
My other great interest is in communication and presentations. Having sat through infinite numbers of bad Powerpoint, I have started giving training days for the regional research observatories on the effective presentation of information.
