Chabazite ion-exchange equilibria for Na-K, Na-Cs, and Cs-K at 23 degrees C were studied. The Gibbs free-energy change derived from the isotherm for the reaction Na (zeolite)+K (solution)=K (zeolite)+Na (solution) is +1.57 kcal, in good agreement with Barrer's values. Only 85 percent of the 3.53 Na atoms per unit cell is present in the equilibrium exchanged Cs chabazite; this is explicable in terms of the crystal structure proposed by Smith.
