Abstract

The author comments on the article "The Neurobiology of Addiction: Implications for Voluntary Control of Behavior," by S. E. Hyman. Hyman states that addicted individuals have impairments in cognitive control of behavior. Neurosurgical teams are studying the role of deep brain stimulation to treat many disorders including depression and obesity. The author agrees with Hyman's presentation of a multimodal study of drug addiction.
