The purpose of this paper is to present the results of an anatomical investigation of the dorsal or extensor apparatus of the toes. The contribution of the long extensor and intrinsic muscles to this dorsal complex and the functional significance of this contribution are analyzed. Important contributions to the study of the dorsal apparatus of the toes were made by R.B.Sabatier in 1775,by G.B.Duchenne in 1866,and By Poirier and Charpy in 1912.
