The anionic polymerization of pentadecanolide ( 1 -oxa-2-cyclohexadecanone) initiated with potassium alkoxides was investigated. Polymerization proceeds under mild condi- tions (tetrahydrofuran, 35 "C ) to form high-molecular-weight polymer (number-average molecular weight Mn up 1o 100000). the formation of cyclic oligomers, via back-biting reaction, was demonstrated by means of gel-permeation chromatography (GPC) and matrix assisted laser desorption ionisation-time of flight (MALDI-TOF) analyses.
