Several applications of ATP bioluminescence of relevance to the dairy industry have been proposed. This paper reviews some of the major benefits of the technology. New developments in bioluminescence research have made the simple, rapid, sensitive detection of foodborne pathogens a distinct possibility. © 1993, American Dairy Science Association.
