Abstract

Available online at http://www.thescientificpub.com http://dx.doi.org/10.19046/abp.v04i01.05 Abstract Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) is a high value and economic medicinal plant because of its pharmaceutically active compounds throughout the world. Stevia acts as a non-caloric natural-source with therapeutic applications including anti-cariogenic, antimicrobial, anticancer, antioxidant and scavenge free radical and antidiabetic properties. Biotechnological techniques offer novel approaches to the industrial production, propagation, conservation and manipulation of Stevia. The aim of this paper is to describe Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) biotechnological approaches and its application in foods and medicine.
