The Boeing journey to excellence: Lean production transformation in the internal and external supply chains at Boeing

Abstract

This paper traces the history and steps used at two of Boeing's central region facilities in Wichita, KS and St. Louis, Mo. in their transformation to a Lean Enterprise. Boeing's success in focusing operational improvements in quality, cost and delivery internally and externally with supplier partners is featured. Brief implementation histories, lessons learned and success factors are included.
