Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter reviews the published literature on MS/OR modelling efforts in natural resource management and reports the state of the art in applying MS/OR methods to problems in fisheries management, forestry, wildlife management, and water resources management. MS/OR models have been applied to natural resource problems that have very different ecological or geographical scales. The chapter focuses on representative streams of applied research. The chapter focuses on the applications where modelling results are implemented and used by policy makers. The chapter highlights the applications where the results from MS/OR models guided and shaped the decision-making process in a substantial way but final results may not have been implemented. For the applications, the chapter focuses on the challenges that are involved in modelling and solving complex problems and in implementing recommendations that are based on model results.
