Abstract

Experiments were carried out to investigate in detail PSBS. Good evidence was obtained for the existence of an overturning instability induced by chemical reactions. A mathematical model adequately described the phenomenon. Stability analyses on steady- and pseudosteady-states predicted the characteristic length and time scales of the initial instability.
