Abstract

A novel magneto-optical method has been used to probe theinternal magnetic energy surface in 150 x 150 x 15 nm(3) squareNi80Fe14Mo5 ("supermalloy") nanomagnets which were fabricatedby electron beam lithography. A strong fourfold symmetricanisotropy field of strength 365 20 Oe is found, whichconfirms a recent prediction of the appearance of aconfigurational anisotropy due to the small deviations of themagnetization from the uniform state.
