Abstract

The paper describes the contemporary status of sturgeon stocks in the Caspian Sea. The effect of natural reproduction and hatchery production on sturgeon population restocking is estimated. Variations in the status of spawning populations of sturgeons migrating into the Volga River were analysed. Recommendations on appropriate measures for conservation of the Caspian sturgeon stocks are presented.
