Abstract

T h ree p ep p er cultiv ars (P M -7 02: res is tant, D em re-8 and K M -h ot: sus cep tible) w ith d ifferent res is tances to Phytophthora capsici-22 (P. capsici-22) w ere inoculated w ith d ifferent concentrations of z oos p ores to analy z e th e tim e cours e of p h eny lalanine am m onia ly as e (P A L ) activ ity , m alond iald eh y d e (M D A ), h y d rog en p erox id e (H2O2), p roline and total p rotein. Sam p les w ere collected from th e leav es of th ree p ep p er cultiv ars on th e 2nd , 4th , and 6 th d ay s after infection; im p ortant d ifferences w ere obs erv ed in P A L activ ity , M D A am ount, H2O2, p roline, and total p rotein w ith res p ect to z oos p ore concentration, infection tim e, and ty p e of p ep p er cultiv ars . A ctiv ity of p h eny lalanine am m onia-ly as e (P A L ), th e fi rs t enz y m e in th e p h eny lp rop anoid bios y nth etic p ath w ay , w as increas ed in inoculated leav es of all th ree cultiv ars . T h e increas e in p rod uction of P A L up on ch alleng e w as h ig h er in th e infected p lants com p ared to th e non-infected (control) p lants . A n early ind uction of P A L w as obs erv ed inth e leav es of all p ep p ers infected w ith P.capsici w ith intw o d ay s , m ak ing it one of th e d etected earlier res p ons es toinfection. M oreov er, p ath og ens tres s increas ed th e rateof lip id p erox id ation(w h ich is ind icated by increas ing M D A content). P rod uctionof reactiv eox y g ens p ecies ,H2O2,and lip id p erox id ation increas ed in p ep p er leav es by increas ing tim e of infection and inoculum concentration.
