This is continuation of work addressing the need for defining protected airspace (Summary of Discussion SASP-WG/WHL/, paragraph 2.49 refers).This working paper presents recently identified scenarios to highlight thesignificance of this issue. Controllers cannot rely on collision risk modellingwhen faced with the application of lateral separation between two aircraft in atactical scenario. The discussion goes further to recommend the amount ofprotected airspace to be used for lateral separation between two aircraft basedon their respective Navigation Specification.
