Democratic Control and Bureaucratic Responsiveness: The Police and Domestic Violence

Abstract

Presents a study which uses a principal-agent to assess if police department practices regarding the handling of domestic violence are responsive to direct orders which mandate arrest of abusers. Influence which state and city laws mandating the arrest of perpetrators will have on the response to calls; Methodology used for the study; Results indicating the administering of state and local laws have positive influence on police response.
