Abstract

Develops a model of principled organizational dissent after a review of literature in the social sciences, humanities, law and journalism. Propositions are derived from the model toward a program of research to estimate the magnitude of principled organizational dissent as a form of individual behavior in the workplace; identify and analyze factors affecting the causes and consequences of principled dissent; and suggest how principled dissent could be more effective as a stimulus for constructive organizational change.
