Expressions for stresses and displacements in orthotropic cylindrical, ellipsoidal, toroidal and conical shells are derived. Discontinuity stresses in orthotropic cylindrical pressure vessels connected to flat, ellipsoidal, and toriconical heads are determined. Stress intensification factors are also calculated. In some cases, the variation of stress intensification factors with moduli ratio and aspect ratio is also investigated. © 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
