Abstract

Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) indicators were analyzed based on the established and initial entrepreneurs (ESIN) ratio and opportunity-necessity entrepreneurship ratio, for the year 2005; and the Total Entrepreneurial Activity (TEA) ratio, in 2000 to 2005. Latin American countries were compared with three groups: the G-7 group (group of the seven most industrialized countries), G-7 countries of the European Union (G-7U), and a sample of developing countries. The economic and socials conditions of a country or region affect business dynamics, and it can also affect entrepreneursbip processes. Total Entrepreneurial Activity was significantly superior in Latin America compared with G-7 and G-7U. No differences were evidenced between Latin America and G-7U in ESIN and OPNE. Latin Amedcan countries did not evidence differences with other developing countries, based on GEM indicators. GEM is a multinational collective initiative that allows obtaining an objective vision of the national and global entrepreneurial process. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
