Abstract

Multicellular organisms must evolve mechanisms to suppress cancer formation prior to reproduction, and we propose that the organizational structure of normal epithelium is one such strategy. Understanding evolved host cancer suppression mechanisms is essential to defining the first steps of carcinogenesis and developing rational cancer prevention strategies. © 2010 Macmillan Publishers Limited.
