A method is described for the extraction and identification of opal phytoliths from food residue on the teeth of cattle. Two types of residual food debris were recognized. These yielded varying quantities of silica particles from plants and soil. The application of the identification of silica bodies to enviromental archaeolory is discussed. © 1975.
