Abstract

Data of salinity, temperature, pH, alkalinity, Secchi disk, pigments and carbon assimilation, have been collected in the ria of Vigo. Samples were taken fortnightly in new monn and full moon; pH has outstanding fornightly variation. The amount of assimilated carbon varies between 2,8 and 0,05 g Carbon/m2 day from the surface to the bottom at 22 m. The mean values are 1,05 in summer and 0,50 in winter, with an annual mean of 0,71 g C/m2 day which is equal to 260 g C/m2 year. In conditions of light saturation, the assimilation is about 6,7 g C/l hour for each gram of chlorophyl a. The speed of the renewal of phytoplankton and particulate nitrogenous organic matter is also estimated. Phytoplankton has been found to have a daily mean renewal of 34%
