Current trends in the marketplace and activities and changes facing retailers in South Africa are highlighted in this review. The subjects covered include the change in consumer behaviour, which is a direct result of ever-increasing diversity of lifestyles and an emphasis on value, and information technology. The changes in the future that are considered are structural, cyclical, social, political, economic and technological changes.
