In this article the author reflects on the assimilation of Charles Darwin's theories into local traditions of thought which is the reason for his worldwide success. It cites how Chinese scholar Yan Fu reinterpreted both Darwin and Thomas Huxley in the light of Confucianism and on how Muslims found their heritage in Darwin's theory. It talks on how Darwin and his idea of evolution was used by Muhammad Abduh on the interpretation of the Koran and by Hiroyuki Kato defending imperial rule.
