Abstract

REQUIRED! Shawn Achor visits Google to discuss his most recent book, Before Happiness. In his last book, Shawn described why happiness is the precursor to success. Here, Shawn explains that before we can be happy or successful, we need to first develop the ability to see that positive change is possible. SUM: 1. Positive Psychology = Eliminate the "wierdos" ("outliers") because need is focus on the average or the reality of things. 2. Problem: Psychotheripsts focus on BELOW average performance so you continue to come back for more help. 3. QUESTION: Why are some people ABOVE "Average"? 4. ANSWER: Understand that external world does NOT determine "happiness" because in fact, WHAT does one EVER have to be UNHAPPY about? The fact is, ALL of us have MUCH to be grateful for IF we focus on the positive side of life. The decision is ours. 5. 75% of success at work is f (social support, optimism level, "ABILITY TO SEE STRESS AS A CHALLENGE INSTEAD OF A THREAT".) 6. NEED: "Reverse formula for happiness and success" by NOT "working harder to be more successful and IF successful will be happier" BUT INSTEAD establish a "HAPPINESS ADVANTAGE" in which you think positively about what you already have and THEREFOR will see success FOLLOW your happioness. 7. POSITIVE ADVANTAGE results in 30% INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY! 8. NEED: "REVERSE THE FORMULA" 9. TECHNIQUES: (1) 3 Gratitudes / day; (2) Journaling; (3) exercise; (4) Meditation; (5) Random Acts of Kindness.
