Abstract

In this article the author, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, discusses the 2010 U.S. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and why she feels its implementation is an historic opportunity for public administrators. Topics include the economic burden of uncompensated medical care, what the ACA does to make health coverage more affordable and accessible to all, and a federal initiative called the Health Insurance Marketplace.
