Thinkers, poets and scientists have tried to reflect and postulate principles of diverse nature about the welfare or happiness of the human beign since very remote times. It is at present an important topic of study for psychology and for social sciences in general. Numerous efforts have been made to establish the components of welfare and different models have been created for its study from the perspectives of very varied disciplines. Welfare lies on the border of a series of other psychosociological and sociological categories and its conceptual and methodological delimitation is one of the greatest challenges these sciences have to face. The present paper pretends to make an analysis of welfare as a category from a psychological point of view, establishing points of contact with other social categories, such as: economic development, living standard, material living conditions, way of life and life style.
