Abstract

More and more frequently, hospital CEOs face a daunting question about the future of their organizations: Who will replace me when I retire? A severe talent drain has hit health care management. Executive searches take longer, fewer candidates vie for jobs, and there is a trend among hospital CEOs to retire earlier. The traditional development process, such as residencies and fellowships - and most importantly, mentoring by CEOs - has waned. Savvy organizations are attacking the problem in a number of innovative ways.
