Abstract

A macrocyclic aromatic pyridone pentamer was shown to catalyze highly efficient transition-metal-free arylations of unactivated aromatic C–H bonds with aryl iodides and bromides in the presence of potassium tert-butoxide. © 2013 The Royal Society of Chemistry.
