Abstract

Replicated and extended M. A. Thalbourne's (1984) report of a significant relationship between scores on M. Eckblad and L. J. Chapman's (see record 1983-21153-001) Magical Ideation Scale (MIS) and psi belief. 282 college students completed the MIS and the Paranormal Belief Scale (J. J. Tobacyk and G. Milford; see record 1984-00249-001). Significant direct relationships were found between magical thinking and beliefs in spiritualism, psi, precognition, superstition, and witchcraft. Religious belief showed a significant inverse relationship with magical thinking for males only. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved).
