Abstract

The article discusses the elements that make Baptist Health (BH) of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville Florida a magnet hospital. BH is a 899-bed health system that is made up of five hospitals and includes a primary care network and a home health agency. The organizational structure is designed to retain nurses and engage them by giving nurses input into the operation of the facility. Personnel policies stress professional nursing development, effective leadership, and appropriate staffing. Nursing practice is centered on quality care of patients and improving patient care. The author explores other aspects of BH including its commitment to education and the community.
