Abstract

It remains to be seen whether the current ‘people power’ sweeping the Middle East and North Africa will be allowed to come to a fruition resulting in genuine democracy. The geo-political and strategic location and the resources at stake may well mean that the tyrants and dictators of the region will only be replaced by regimes palatable to the dominant global configuration of power. Regardless of what the future holds, this new found ‘people power’ has captured the Muslim imaginary. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)
