Abstract

Quantum well structures in germanium and nanophotonic structures in dielectrics and metals promise future optics, optoelectronics and electronics, all possibly combined in one silicon-compatible platform. Challenges, approaches and recent progress are summarized. © 2007 Optical Society of America.
