Examination of NaFeO2TiO2compositions has shown that the α-NaFeO2structure can be given a range of nonstoichiometry Na1-xFe1-xTixO2, O ≤ x ≤ 0.28. The additional Ti atoms are randomized with Fe atoms, and charge balance is maintained by a partial occupancy of the Na atom layers. Fractional occupancy of alkali ion sites in other compounds in the NaFeO2TiO2system and in the systems KAlO2TiO2, KAlO2SiO2, and KFeO2TiO2was also found. In TiO4tetrahedra, Ti4+was deduced to have a TiO bond length of 1.92 Å. © 1971.
