Abstract

NMR imaging is a recently developed technique. Because of its importance as a diagnostic modality, and as a help to potential investors, a brief, simplified introduction to the basic principals of NMR imaging, a discussion of the available types of equipment, and a comparison with CT scanning, are presented. The diagnostic possibilities of NMR are evaluated and a section regarding cost of equipment is included. Medical applications and patient safety are not discussed in this article, but will be addressed later in a separate study.
