Open source library automation

Abstract

The article presents information on the emerging open source software movement as it applies to integrated library systems. It notes that the Integrated Library System (ILS) provides computer automation for all aspects of the operation of a library. The open source software movement is referred to as one of the major alternatives for professionals who work with computer software. It mentions some of the major proprietary ILS products available, which include Symphony from SiraiDynix, Millennium from Innovative Interfaces, Aleph from Ex Libris Group.
