Abstract

The cover story discusses the role engineering, bioengineering and high technology industry play in shaping the future, commenting that they have goals as transformative as those of Soviet political leader Vladimir Lenin and 20th century German ruler Adolf Hitler. The article compares that transformative nature of the high technology industries with contemporary politicians' attitudes. An overview of the impact that algorithms have on society, including their potential to act as a replacement of human beings, is provided.
