Arom. aldehydes 4-RC6H4CHO (R = H, Me, Cl, Br, MeO, HO, CHO) were oxidized to the carboxylic acids 4-RC6H4CO2H using the catalyst [Ni(acac)2] and dioxygen at atm. pressure, as the oxidant, in the ionic liq. N-butyl-N-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, [bmim]·PF6. The catalyst and ionic liq. could be recycled after extn. of the carboxylic acid product. [on SciFinder(R)]
