Abstract

Presents an inventory of political psychology research in New Zealand, noting that this work can be divided into 2 categories: research on New Zealanders at both the elite and mass levels and work on the psychology of politics by academics living in New Zealand. Research on elite behavior has examined leadership styles and birth order of politicians. Mass-level studies have investigated conservative vs democratic thought, political tolerance, and rational voting. General psychological-political work by New Zealanders has covered the meaning and measurement of intelligence, the concept of power, and political socialization.
