The t hermal decomposition of fully hydra ted pastes made from 12 different kin ds of cemen t vias studied. In all sys tems the combined water conten t declined and the porosity i ncreased s l ightl y at lower temperature and contracted only as th e temperature increased even further . The newly formed phases were different in different cements . In most cements the compress i ve strength increased fi rst upon heating and started to decl i ne only af ter a critical tempe r ature was exceeded.
