Industry has a growing interest in managing the through-life support of RN warships, but this interest is tempered by difficulties in defining clearly what is being contracted for. In any contract there must be an appreciation of what the deliverables are and what risk is entailed in order to set commensurate rewards. We look at the two main aspects: the ship's support in service and its repair or refit ashore.
