Abstract

The article discusses how some companies are using crowdsourcing to improve decision making, business planning, and performance. Information-technology-services company HCL Technologies experienced positive business results by subjecting business-unit plans to review and feedback from thousands of company employees. Strategy reviews conducted by teams at open-source-software company Red Hat have led to value-creating new investments by the firm. Software provider Rite-Solutions has created an artificial market within the company that lets employees develop and trade opinions on new ideas, the most promising of which receive seed money.
