We develop the proposition that what we may call “systemhood” is an independent aspect of things, independent of their “thinghood”. We develop this idea along the same lines followed earlier in mathematics, in the extraction of the concept of a set from experience with particular aggregates. Some interesting consequences of this viewpoint are sketched.
