The electrochemical formation and properties of aluminum-lithium alloys at pure aluminum have been studied in γ-butryolactone solutions with LiCl, LiClO4, LiBF4, and LiAsF6 as electrolytes β-AlLi is formed under most circumstances. A value of rate formation of the alloy from the LiAsF6 solution was 1.5 × 10-7 g cm-2s-1. Cycling efficiency of this alloy electrode with respect to lithium was 70 ± 5% and remained unchanged even after 25 cycles. The alloy formation in the LiCl, LiClO4, and LiBF4 solutions is followed by its passivation leading to a significant drop of the cycling efficiency.
