Study says prescription opioids lead cause of overdose deaths in West Virginia

Abstract

The article reports on a study on the mortality rate on patients prescribed with opioids. Study shows that the prescription opioids are the leading cause of overdose deaths in West Virginia. The drug methadone caused 40 percent of the deaths and out of 295 overdose deaths which involve prescription drugs in 2006, 186 of cases have no valid prescriptions and 63 cases have consulted five different clinicians.
