Abstract

it is the thesis of this chapter that knowledge about elderly suicide, and good will by both the professional community and the public, can save lives and increase happiness / explore some of the major variables associated with elderly suicide, explore some of the strengths and assets of the elderly, and discuss some implications for theory and practice recognition and evaluation of the suicidal elderly / depression / paranoia / help rejection / loss of important others / role change and loss / major illness / major crises in the self / blows to self-esteem / major crises in others / social isolation / clinical portents and communications family / assets of the elderly: old age as a time of strength and renewal (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
